Just found this neat little feature. To add a link to view source of the page you’re on, add this:

Page to view

See it working here:

(May well just be a FFox thing, not seen it before)

Orb

Filed under: Mixed bag — chilsta @ 12:00 am

I’ll be keeping an eye on Orb.

“Orb takes the home out of home entertainment! Orb gives you secure access to your digital media from your home computer through a simple Web interface. Stream your live TV, photos, music and videos to any Web-enabled device.”

Be interesting to see if there are any Open Source rivals out there. If not, I’m sure it won’t be long.

My Miranda list May 18, 2005

Filed under: Mixed bag — chilsta @ 6:33 pm

Miranda will hopefully be the defacto Windows messaging program soon (from the website):

“Miranda IM is a multi protocol instant messenger client. No bloat, it’s Easy and Small! Miranda IM is designed to be resource efficient and easy to use. It uses very little memory and requires no installation. Just unzip and run! This also makes it ideal for users that want to run their messenger client from a removable storage such as an USB memory stick. It can even be stored on a floppy disc if not too many plugins are used. “

I’m going to keep a list here of interesting Miranda stuff I’ve found on my travels:

SnagIt – Advanced Screen Capture

Filed under: Web Design — chilsta @ 6:06 pm

Had Snag It recommended to me today.

Don’t have a need for it now myself, but the day may well come, specially like the sound of the video capture- there have certainly been times when I’ve wished I could capture some streamed video. Nice. (Cheers Paul P for the tip).

Some interesting LED sites…

Filed under: LEDs — chilsta @ 12:56 am

The maker of the amazing uFlex (which I bought 3 of- build photos and info to come one day, honest). George Scolaro’s great new site: “TaskLED offers a range of proprietary LED drivers and LED lighting solutions.“.
There’s some info on RV applications of George’s Luxeon LED kit from Marco Beckwith.

Some goood info on the quality of LED clusters for automotive applications from WebBike World.

A good overview here at ePanorama.

This was an interesting find- you know when an incandescent indicator bulb blows and your indicators start flashing faster to let you know that a bulb’s out? Well due to LED bulbs putting such a low load on the inidcator relay, it acts as if a bulb’s blown and flashes too fast. What you need to get round this little problem is a LED Load Equaliser

Technical LED information

The LED Museum

LED suppliers that do the lot

  • Ultra LEDs (UK) Large range
  • Forge Europa, who also have this OptiLED site for White LEDs
  • Oolights (UK)
  • 3dzLED (UK)- range of general LED stuff.
  • Photonlight- Keyring LED torches (US).
  • The LED Light US site supplying a massive range of LED products including flood lights, bricks, Luxeons, direct replacement home bulbs that will run off 120volt (they also list 240v versions for us “ferners” ;)
  • Technology Associates have a good range of torches and other LED based products.
  • Large range of interesting LED products from Superbright LEDs (US).

  • Some interesting LED stuff from The LED Light, I think I’m going to have to get a Laserpod… sounds too good to pass by:

“the Laserpod splits three lasers and a load of ultraviolet LEDs through a Swarovski Crystal to generate random patterns of multicolored LED light. The Laserpod comes with two translucent plastic domes to diffuse the light, projecting swirls on their surface. But the real fun comes when you remove the dome and let the light crawl across the walls and ceiling.”

Interior LED lighting

Automotive suppliers

Angus Noble makes this futuristic LED light. Sounds great, but can’t imagine too many people are willing to pay the high cost of £50 for a torch!

This is the kind of thing that could bring the breakthrough I’m waiting for. Come on! silicon chips have been around far too long, lets have something groundbreaking to move us on….
Article from The Guardian.
Just think of the gadgets that this stuff could make possible.
