The Curst Sons March 20, 2004

Filed under: Music — chilsta @ 8:15 pm

Went and saw the Curst Sons at the Hanbury Ballroom last night. Hels knows one of the members, Dave, through work and it was a great gig. Totally different crowd than we’re used to, but all friendly and it made a welcome change. We bought the CD. Who said I don’t support the music? I’ll glady admit that I don’t support the music industry. I’ll be happy when the day comes that the money grabbing ‘media moguls’ shrivel up and crawl back in their holes.

About the only song I recognised all night was Quincy Jones’ Soul Bossanova (the sample used in Dream Warrior’s ‘My Definition of a boombastic jazz style’. But I did use Shazzam for the first time (well, the first time it’s worked anyway) for ‘Shout bama lama’ by The Detroit Cobras.

A good night was had by all.

Barbapapa March 12, 2004

Then I remembered Barbapapa. We used to have the books and I know I saw the TV shows, but it’s all a distant memory now. Wonder if I can track down some video on the net? In the mean time:

  • The Barbapapa Web Site
  • Homepage of Barbapapa’s friends
  • Japanese Sony site– wow, looks like there was a big Barbapapa craze in Japan last year… PlayStation & iMode games, toys of all shapes and sizes. Is that Barbapapa toothpaste half way down the homepage?
If you choose the history link on the menu you get to see the story from the original book.
  • Nasty Nip in Brighton have a load of stuff for sale on their website, or visit the shop in the North Laine.

More Series 60 apps for my 6600 March 11, 2004

Filed under: Gadgets — chilsta @ 6:37 pm

Got my Bluetooth USB adapter today and went on the hunt for things to do with it (apart from now being able to sync with my desktop rather than relying on the painfully slow IrDa on the laptop).

  • Remote S60– Russell Beattie’s review of this app that lets you control your phone from your PC.
  • Bemused– an app that lets you use your phone as a remote control for Winamp, among other things
  • M-Shape– a mad program that lets you design a table on your phone then have it made by a company in Switzerland! Pretty cool, but I can imagine things falling through those holes would start to get annoying after a while- I’d put a glass top on mine.

Note to self: the screen’s 176×208

Pete uses a 6600 too, so there’s lots of handy info on there for me :)

(Edited May 2005 ‘cos he changed his site around).
