Dial-A-Board November 1, 2006

This is a new website that went live a couple of days ago. The graphic design was provided by a friend of the company owners and I created an XHTML/ CSS template and built the site around that. It was a challenge as the layout didn’t lend itself well to a pure CSS design, so I used a few cheats to avoid over-complicating things. The end result is a standards compliant website that degrades gracefully, loads fast and is easy to update.

Dial-A-Board is a new operation, run by an English couple which is offering a service around the Piesey-Vallandry area of Les Arcs in France. They will deliver top-notch gear to your chalet or hotel on the day you arrive, make sure you’re kitted out properly and come and collect it at the end of your stay.

Sure beats waiting around for ages at a rental place that opens at weird hours, where you don’t understand what the people are saying very well and when they finally find some gear that’s suitable it looks like it was found at the bottom of an avalanche at the end of the last season! One year they put my bindings on backwards and I rode the board backwards half the holiday! I bought my own board for the next time I went.

The Salvagedoctor

Filed under: Mixed bag — chilsta @ 12:01 am

A site I’m working on at the moment.Still a work in progress, but we decided to go live with it in its present state as the nights are starting to get colder and people are going to be looking at replacing radiators at this time of the year.

The site’s for The Salvagedoctor: an architectural salvage company based in Horsham in the UK. They specialise in superbly restored cast iron radiators and also supply fireplace surrounds & antique stoves, roll-top baths, railings and gates and hundreds of other kinds of weird and wonderful salvage items.
